We left Yangon for Mawla Myaing Gyun on 13th June 2008. This is one of the most severely hit areas of Cyclone Nargis. To reach the area, we had to take a boat for 12 hours because the area is inaccessable by road as it is totally surrounded by rivers. Therefore, most of the relief groups never managed to get there.
Fortunately, we had a very good friend in this town, who came to meet us at the jetty. He had already made 6 relief trips to the surrounding villages and strongly hit areas. He is a local man with a good heart and a good manager. He was able to provide us with information on which villages needed aid the most and what they needed exactly. He also helped us with the logistics.
So for this trip we bought 40 sacs of rice, 300 meters of tarpaulin, aluminium pots and pans for cooking, anti-mosquito tablets and other items.
We were accompanied by Unicef and UNFPA, who donated mosquito nets, safe matenity kits and female dignity kits.
